In the summer of 1994 I travelled around Germany as a researcher writer for Let's Go Germany 1994, a book which fed into Let's Go: Europe which was then the top budget travel guide in the world (I think). (All of Let's Go has since then disappeared! swallowed by the internet, I guess.) But in 1993 I travelled for two months to all sorts of cities checking out the hotels and sites and updating the guide. It was an unbelievable amount of work, especially since budget hotels are often not central, and you have to hike to wherever they are.
When the book was published it meant the world to me to read the acknowledgments in the editor's notes.
